Medical Assistant

Course Description

Medical Assistants assist in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician or other health care practitioner. A Medical Assistant’s scope of practice includes both administrative and clinical responsibilities and may vary from state to state. Medical Assistants must be knowledgeable and possess skills in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, medical law and ethics, pharmacology, and medical office administrative procedures. A Medical Assistant’s clinical skills include vital signs, phlebotomy, electrocardiography, point-of-care testing, medication administration, and more.

Course Details

Cost: $4,000* with most supplies included

*Monthly payment plans are available.
*Students are required to cover the cost of disposable examination gloves, a blood pressure monitoring kit, an analog watch (w/second hand) and his/her own pink and gray scrubs to wear to each class.

Course Requirements

Prerequisites

High School Diploma or GED
9th grade reading level

Immunizations

MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tetanus, negative TB skin test, seasonal flu shot, COVID vaccine (for the externship)

Grades

Students must complete each class with an overall grade of 75% or higher to continue to complete the program, be placed for an externship, and receive a certificate of completion.

Additional Information

Externship

160 hours (unpaid) for those who successfully complete training. We have a training agreement for externship with Henry Ford Allegiance Health as well as many other health care providers. 

Certifications

National Certification examination cost through the National Center for Competency Testing is not included in the tuition cost.
