Healthcare Technician I & II
The health field continues to grow quickly and there are numerous careers available for trained professionals. In Healthcare Technician I, students will get an introduction to the broader spectrum of health career options, while Healthcare Technician II focuses on specialized training specific to certain career paths. Students who enroll in this program can also participate in the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) club and take part in local, regional, state and national competitions.
In Healthcare Technician I, students will explore and learn all the fundamentals that are essential to becoming a healthcare professional. Topics will include entry level healthcare employability skills, vital signs, infection control, safety precautions, legal and ethical considerations, anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology. All students will have the opportunity to be certified in CPR through the American Heart Association.
Students who return for Healthcare Technician II will focus on specialized training in a variety of health sciences career pathways. Students will enhance their employability, technical, and clinical skills using simulated workplace scenarios while training on commonly used medical office and laboratory equipment. Students will also explore various healthcare career paths, including, but not limited to: sonography and radiography, phlebotomy, sports medicine, and nursing specialties like surgery and labor & delivery.
Second-year students will learn the 40-plus patient care skills essential for becoming a certified nursing assistant. This program collaborates with industry partners like Henry Ford Health and Jackson College, among others. The second-year program may also include a wide range of work-based learning opportunities, including field trips, job shadows, blood drives, and off-site community service.
Upon completion of the Healthcare Technician program, achieving students will be prepared for an entry-level healthcare position and earn college credits through our articulated credit partnerships.

*Health Technician II program
Students enrolled in these programs are eligible to take classes at Jackson College while remaining a high school student through the Jackson County Early College (JCEC). Students commit to a 13th year of high school and can complete a degree or certification that transfers to major universities at little-to-no additional cost. Students must commit by October of their junior year to be a part of the JCEC.
