Clubs and Organizations

Career & Technical Student Organizations (CTSO)

Several Career Center programs have active student organizations and regularly participate in regional, state and national competitions with other career-technical education students. These experiences provide great opportunities for building leadership, citizenship and professional advancement skills.  We encourage all students to get involved with these organizations to enhance their career-technical elective experience.

BPA

Business Professionals of America (BPA) is designed to prepare students in business classes to connect the world of work and build work efficiency, not only in an office setting, but also in a wide variety of business situations.  Our students indicate they join BPA to take advantage of a wide variety of professional development opportunities. This club promotes pride in our country and its free enterprise business system.

The Career Center's Computer Information Technology classes coordinate all BPA activities.

FFA

The National FFA Organization is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. FFA is not just for students who want to be production farmers; FFA also welcomes members who aspire to careers as teachers, doctors, scientists, business owners and more. 

Career Center students in the Agriscience program can become involved in the FFA organization.

HOSA

Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) is a student organization whose mission is to promote career opportunities in health care and to enhance delivery of quality health care to all people. Through club activities, students build strengths in leadership and team building while enhancing their clinical skills. Career Center students enrolled in Dental Occupations and Healthcare Technician I & II can participate in HOSA.

NTHS

The National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) is an educational non-profit that exists to honor, recognize, and empower students and teachers in Career & Technical Education. NTHS serves over 100,000 active members annually in both secondary and postsecondary chapters across country. Since its founding in 1984, nearly 1 million students have become NTHS alumni. NTHS honors the achievements of top CTE students, provides close to $300,000 in scholarships annually, and strives to help connect education and industry to build a highly skilled workforce.

Any student who maintains a 3.0 grade point average at their local high school and a 3.5 in their Career Center class is eligible to apply for membership in the NTHS organization.

DECA

Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) is an association of marketing students that encourages the development of business and leadership skills through academic conferences and competitions. Members practice key leadership skills such as goal setting, consensus building and project management.

The Career Center's Sales and Marketing class offers participation in DECA.

FIRST Robotics

Participation on the Career Center's FIRST Robotics team, The Jacktown Vectors, is an exciting, unique and rewarding experience. It provides students with an opportunity to develop skills in creativity, engineering, team work, problem-solving, leadership, and marketing. Students from any high school and any Career Center program can join, even if they do not attend the Career Center. The team usually starts in December with an organizational meeting and the robot building begins in January.

JROTC Golden Knights

The Army JROTC program offers three clubs to cadets with a "C" or better in class: the Rifle Marksmanship Team, Raiders, and Drill & Color Guard Team. All of the clubs do weekly training and give cadets an opportunity to challenge themselves through leadership, self-discipline training, confidence building activities, and competitive events.

Students enrolled in the Career Center's Army JROTC program can earn a spot in one or more of these groups.

 

SkillsUSA

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives, working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers, and high school and college students, who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.
